The Theatre, a steadily-growing and highly regarded member of Chicago’s community of professional live theater companies, seeks a pioneering Development Manager to lead and strengthen the organization’s fundraising activities. The Development Manager will build new processes for all fundraising programs, including annual campaign, individual giving, special events, sponsorships and grantmaking. The Development Manager reports to the Artistic and Managing Directors.
Plan and implement new and creative strategies to build the annual fundraising program.
Work in partnership with the Managing Director to develop and track progress against the Development budget.
Report on the progress of the Development program at Board meetings.
Work with the Board of Directors and other volunteers in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts (annual and capital), season, show and corporate sponsors.
Develop cultivation and solicitation materials to support fundraising efforts.
Build strong relationships with foundation and corporate funders.
Plan and coordinate an annual gala and other special events including opening nights.
Manage grantmaking processes: applications, reports, and updates.
Oversee the collection of data on contributors and maintain a database of donor information including gift amounts, donor correspondence, gift acknowledgement letters, and tax receipts.
Coordinate followup letters after VIP events, holiday card mailings, invitations to special events, personal calls to donors.
Other administrative duties as needed.
Three to five years of fundraising experience.
Knowledge of development principles, fundraising techniques, and ethics.
Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication ability.
Ability to be self-directed and work independently in a fast-paced work environment.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and ticketing and/or donor databases.
This position has some flexibility in its specific regular hours; working on some weekday and weekend evenings is required.
