Job Description

Estimator is responsible for calculating cost of labor, materials and equipment that is required for a construction project. The Estimator is also responsible for availing new leads, take/obtain site pictures, determine scope of work, attend site walkthrough, (Perform site measuring as required, determine job location logistics) and create estimates for project leads within a timely fashion (after internal review from Chief Estimator). This process may involve procurement of quotes from sub-trades, suppliers, preforming take-offs and detailed review of plans and addenda. The Estimator will also assist the Project Managers/Site Supervisor/Project Coordinator by tracking quantities, preparation of budget, and other areas of project management as necessary.


- Establish and maintain tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures;
- Review and scale plans to determine detailed scope of work and square footage of areas concerned and be able to provide clear and detailed take-offs;
- Collaboratively work with the estimating team on completing assigned projects;
- Completing reviews of assignment with Lead Estimator to ensure that proposals are competitive and profitable bids;
- Utilize and apply research skills to identify project-specific prices related to key items including labour, equipment and materials;
- Creating and maintaining internal database of clients, subs & Suppliers.
- Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labour costing.
- Compile detailed SOW for client review and approval by providing Lead Letter;
- Assemble estimates and/or proposals;
- Follow-up Lead Letter or discuss scope of work with General Contractors prior to tender close to ensure completeness of scope of work;
- Perform Site Measures to confirm dimension (If necessary)
- Take or request site pictures of existing site conditions (as necessary)
- Attend sub-trade visits as required;
- Follow-up on project tenders priced and create Lead Reports/Bid Updates;
