Job Description

We are currently looking to fill a contract ECG Instructor position for the theoretical and hands on instruction of the Cardiovascular System & ECG course within its Medical Lab Assistant Diploma program. This is a 100 hour course delivered over 4 consecutive weeks starting May 9, 2022 and ending June 5, 2022. Classes take place Mondays - Fridays from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The College is looking to hire an instructor to start no later than May 2, 2022 in order to have training and preparation time.

Course Description:

This course provides an in-depth study of the anatomy and electrical conduction system of the heart. Students will learn how to perform electrocardiograms, blood pressure monitoring, the use and maintenance of equipment and the analysis of electrocardiogram tracings including how to identify tracings that may require immediate medical attention.

Upon successful completion of the course the learner will be able to:

- Describe the normal cardiac anatomy and physiology and normal electrophysiology of the cardiac system.
- Discuss the cardiac anatomy essential for understanding the basic principles of ECG interpretation.
- Demonstrate how to record an ECG.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of various ECG lead systems.
- Demonstrate how to set and adjust the ECG monitor settings to varying patient situations.
- Understand the different lead placements and purpose of each placement.
- Identify and relate waveforms to the cardiac cycle.
- Utilize a systematic process when approaching the interpretation of the ECG.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

The ECG instructor will be required to contribute to the academic success of students and the program by:

- Delivering instruction that meets the course competencies and program objectives as set out in the curriculum.
- Evaluate student performance in a timely manner
- Enhance the program by inviting guest speakers as well as organize relevant field trips.
- Monitor and review students during practicum, if required.

Education and Experience:

- Degree or diploma from a recognized university or College in a relevant discipline.
- A minimum two or more full-time years experience in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A credential in adult education will be an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

- Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Ability to work in a team environment contributing to the program’s success
- Ability to work one on one with students that need individualized attention.
