- Description
The company is seeking a a highly experienced and flexible Database
Administrator (DBA) to join our existing service team on a part time
contract. The work is to provide on-demand design, support, migration,
maintenance, and administration of various database platforms, both
on-premise and in AWS cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
Sustainment and Support
* Monitor database jobs and replication activities.
* Perform routine and ad-hoc database maintenance and
troubleshooting.
* Provide 24/7 system outage support (shutdown, restart, issue
resolution).
* Tune queries and optimize database performance.
* Maintain user access and implement database security protocols.
* Perform backups, restores, and manage archival data.
* Document new configurations and updates in the run book.
Administration and Operations
* Manage user roles, permissions, and access.
* Allocate and manage storage capacity.
* Install, configure, and upgrade database software and tools.
* Create and manage database objects (tables, indexes, triggers,
etc.).
* Generate reports and assist with ad-hoc queries and data pulls.
Project-Based Activities
* Lead or assist with database design, architecture reviews, and
migrations.
* Advise development teams on best practices and database
architecture.
* Implement database structures based on developer specifications.
* Participate in capacity planning and solution design.
Technical Environment
* Database Platforms: Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon RDS, PostgreSQL,
MySQL
* Cloud: AWS (PaaS and infrastructure support)
* Frameworks: TOGAF, Zachman or equivalent
* Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect preferred
* Other Tools: ITIL-based service management, standard monitoring and
automation tools
