My most critical skill is my ability to understand a client's needs, clarify anything that's unclear, and turn around a superior product in a minimal amount of time. In addition, I'm great at taking technical concepts and explaining them in a non-technical way, so as I'm discussing a client's needs or discussing progress on a project, I can communicate extremely effectively.

Another highly valuable skill I have is that if there is some part of a project that requires research, I'm very good at doing that research and arriving at a solution. For instance, many years ago as part of a team working on Emergency Recovery software for Windows XP, I researched the on-disk structure of Windows "NTFS" file system -- the way that files are stored on all modern, Microsoft-based operating systems now. Because of what I discovered, my name is listed as one of the contributors to the Linux NTFS driver -- the software that gives the Linux operating system the ability to read and understand Windows files.
