Attributes that best describes:
As a former research assistant studying the effects of stress on pain perception in undergraduates, I have become proficient at running participants, including administering all required forms, questionnaires, and tests, explaining procedures, answering questions, and collecting physiological measures such as saliva samples, blood pressure, pain thresholds, and ECGs. I have learned valuable skills in managing unexpected events, such as technology malfunction during a session, in effectively preparing beforehand in order for a session to proceed as smoothly as possible, and in ensuring the comfort and safety of each participant. Furthermore, I have experience organizing and managing participant files, accurately extracting the necessary data, implementing and modifying protocols in a team environment, monitoring the progression of data collection, and training new research assistants. My involvement with both human and animal research has developed my analytical, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills and has provided me with exposure to various equipment, techniques, and software.
My work and volunteering with seniors both at the retirement home and at the hospital have helped me develop effective communication and listening skills, and have taught me to address people and their concerns in a patient, clear, and professional manner despite possible communication obstacles such as dementia. As a volunteer at a physiotherapy clinic, I had the opportunity to greet and interact with patients, maintain a clean environment, accurately follow the physiotherapist's instructions, and assist with therapeutic treatments. As a food server at the retirement home and a research assistant, I have learned to work efficiently under pressure, both independently and as a team, and to adapt quickly to new situations. In addition, due to my experience with seniors and individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities, I am aware and sensitive to people's specific needs and personalities.
