Attributes that best describes:
I have recently finished my Honors Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto, double majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology, and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I have been extensively trained during my undergraduate studies by conducting various research in the progressive and cooperative lab environment. I have studied the cytoskeleton dynamics utilizing the Arabidopsis thaliana model and gained insight into scientific research methods and practiced basic experimental techniques. Then I did a summer research in evolutionary biology studying the density and frequency dependent selfing rate and the sexual differentiation life history using the model plant Rumex hastatus. This experience involved a lot of field work and built my time management and organization skills, as well as the unique perspectives from different fields in biology. I have also completed a thesis project on the construction of a fluorescent protein in aim to tag and study the specific cell movements during zebrafish development. From conducting experiments and writing my thesis paper, I have developed skills in independent research, systematic literature reviews, scientific writing, and the ability to synthesize complex information.
Furthermore, I worked as the commuter don for Bolt House at New College Office of Residence and Student Life, in collaboration with my commuter don team. I was extensively trained with my communication, problem resolution, organization and other interpersonal skills, as well as Emergency First Aid and CPR. As a commuter don, I was involved in the collaborative and independent organizing of various events and communicated with the commuter students during my office hours every week. This experience has reinforced my interpersonal skills, especially the event-planning that allowed me to work with a diverse group of people.
