I am currently at a great crossroads point in my life and career. Receiving my CPA designation last summer I realized now is the time to take the opportunity to explore the world and grow myself before settling into my career. With that realization I put in a request for an extended leave of absence from my current position as senior accountant at the firm Ginsburg, Gluzman, Fage & Levitz, LLP. The leave was approved. My firm wants to give me this chance as well. It also happens to work out well for their budget due to the cyclical nature of accounting. The leave, beginning in July, will continue until January, 2018. With the leave I will be traveling to Vancouver, then off to Europe. Planning to immerse myself in each city for 2-3 weeks at a time.
It’s extremely important for me to continue growing and learning throughout my life, so with this time off I will be looking for a job which will allow me to use and expand on my current accounting skills. Of course, that job must be remote. I’ve gained crucial skills related to working remotely from my time with GGFL. A large amount of the time worked included days to weeks out at client offices, as well as working from home. That meant that within that time I had to prioritize and plan what work to do at what point. Because in the end, it is up to me to get it all done. This would include close communication with my manager, junior staff under my supervision and also client staff. This is vital to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Many of the clients I work with would include business owners and staff throughout their organization. This means explaining complicated concepts to people unfamiliar with accounting, in a way they can understand. I should note of course that some flexibility will be needed by both parties, mostly considering the differences in time zones. However I believe I have the necessary skills to make it run smoothly.
