I possess a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, a Bachelor's Degree in Education (Intermediate/Secondary) as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Arts with a major and minor in French and Political Science respectively, all from Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am proficient in French and have a Government of Canada French Language Proficiency Score of C (reading comprehension), B (written expression) and C (oral proficiency).
I have very strong written and verbal communication abilities in both English and French. This includes creating compelling and accurate written texts, proofreading and editing texts while ensuring stylistic and contextual appropriateness, providing timely and tactful feedback verbally and in writing, public speaking and developing and delivering presentations using both official languages. I receive and respond to numerous e-mails from clients, colleagues and constituents daily and do so in a timely, polite and professional manner and using discretion at all times. Working in the Ottawa office of a federal MP and most recently at CRA, I have gained a great deal of experience in answering telephone calls and e-mails pertaining to constituent/customer inquiries, requests and concerns, many of which are of a confidential nature. I have also been involved in the creation, proofreading and editing of materials for print publication, bulk e-mail and social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Recently, I was the Social Media Manager for a provincial election candidate and in that role, I was responsible for strategizing, creating, managing, monitoring and responding to all social media content related to the candidate and his campaign in a creative and engaging way.
Being an effective teacher requires expert skills in data management and analysis, and presentation of these results at departmental meetings and brainstorming recommendations based on these analytics. Through my teaching career and my work at CRA, I also have extensive experience with a plethora of technology such as MS Office Suite, other web-based software and various social media. In addition, I am experienced with attendance and leave management software. In my political work, I have received training in database management software and have done a great deal of database entry and analysis. I take care to ensure that all data is entered precisely and that the confidentiality of the data is maintained.
I possess very strong research skills. As a teacher, I diligently research and compile information from official and reliable sources in order to ensure curriculum materials and presentations are accurate. I have further developed my research skills when preparing responses to constituent e-mails requesting information about policy and issues of public concern.
As an educator and CRA employee, I am responsible for accurately interpreting policies and directives and effectively applying these procedures in many different, sometimes complex situations. I also have experience in the development and implementation of new policies at an administrative level. I have been tasked with analyzing and assessing new school district policies with a view to identifying issues and making recommendations for change.
Student achievement results, behavioral issues, guidance files, and other personal information are extremely confidential and so I have extensive experience in safeguarding sensitive and private information and acting with discretion in all matters. Because of my sound judgment and reliability, I have been entrusted with accessing many confidential files and personal information during my volunteer time in an office environment. I currently hold Secret Security Clearance with the Federal Government.
Throughout my career, both parent, students, coworkers and clients have consistently expressed their satisfaction and enjoyment with our interactions. In my political work, I interact positively and professionally with constituents, members of Parliament and their staff, and have officially represented a Member of Parliament at public events. In my political work and CRA position, I go above and beyond in all tasks I undertake and in this way, I feel I am uniquely qualified to provide service excellence.
Due to my strong leadership qualities I am often asked to mentor new educators and have held supervisory roles when hosting teacher interns and working as a substitute school administrator. In this role, I am responsible for ensuring that the activities of the office run smoothly each day by stepping in to perform general office tasks, hiring of replacement employees, updating employee attendance software, effective conflict management, scheduling, crisis management, communications and effectively interpreting and ensuring that provincial Department of Education and local school district policies and procedures are being followed.
As a teacher, in my work in a political office setting and as an employee at CRA, I have gained extensive experience in electronic and hard copy filing, retrieval and organization of files, maintaining calendars, photocopying, reconciliation of accounts, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, organizing conventions, rallies and conferences as well as other clerical duties.
The junior high classroom is an extremely fast paced, challenging environment as is my office environment at CRA, and so I have honed my skills in creativity, organization, time management, planning, problem solving, multi-tasking and conflict management. I consistently demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, empathy and professionalism as a teacher, in my political work, and as a CRA employee, even in the face of stressful and demanding situations.
I have taken the initiative to upgrade my education and skills through university degrees and numerous professional development sessions. I have also undertaken technology training in various areas such as Microsoft Excel and database software. I enjoy acquiring new skills and do so quickly and with ease.
