Attributes that best describes:
My name is Melanie Manning and I am a humanitarian in training. I believe my purpose in life is to alleviate human suffering by providing medical care and supporting international development initiatives. I started this mission in grade 8 by fundraising the tuition for four orphaned Kenyan students. I continued by expanding this fundraising program to two Durham elementary schools. My work in the humanitarian sector has not stopped since! I have since received awards from various organizations for my work in the community, one of which includes the RBC Leading Change scholarship.
My professional skills include data entry and analysis using Microsoft Excel, and staying organized. As a nursing student at a camp this summer, I had over 120 patients per day in the clinic; this refined my time management, organization and administrative skills to a high level. I speak fluent French and beginner Spanish, which supported my experiences volunteering in El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.
I am currently a nursing school at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and started a club this year focused on humanitarian leadership, local and global community development, and engaging in conversations with marginalized groups. With my commitment, adaptability and past experience, I am confident I will be a valuable support to projects and organizations working to improve the human condition.
