When Google X, the semi-secret innovation lab of Google, looks for people to solve the world’s most complex problems, they look for a certain type of person.
“The classic definition of an expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing. And people like that can be extremely useful in a very focused way. But these are really not X people. What we want, in a sense, are people who know less and less about more and more.” - Astro Teller, head of Google X.
I quote Teller because it perfectly encapsulates what value I can bring to an organization. It is resonant of what a good writer or storyteller does. A good writer is not an expert in a field, and this is their virtue. A good writer knows how to discover information, an angle or a story thanks to a broad and varied background, interests and skill set.
I'm a Writer and Communications Specialist with post-graduate certification in Professional Writing and Communications and a strong and varied background in scientific research, law, forensics, design and engineering.
I have experience as a Professional Writer, working in the design and engineering space, medical cannabis space, as a volunteer in the non-profit sector and working freelance with non-profit entities and for-profit small businesses and corporate clients. Through this experience I’m skilled at writing a wide range of communications materials – equally comfortable writing an annual report, creating visually stimulating infographic, managing the HTML 5 coding of a webpage or writing a feature.
