Job Title: Project Design Engineer

Hours of Work: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Over the last 15 years, the company has built a reputation for producing high quality custom Shipping Container Modifications.

Focused on customer service and continuous improvement the company is a ISO 9001-2015 certified company located on 7 acres of property in Etobicoke.

Reporting to the President, the incumbent will be responsible to the support and complete design projects as assigned for the Production Department including Customer Approved Drawings, Shop Drawings, Engineering Change Orders and As-Built Drawings.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: A Project Design Engineer is responsible to complete Engineering Projects by designing, organizing and controlling project design elements.


· Prepare drawings for production with bill of materials.

· Report project status directly to Program/Business Unit Managers and department leaders

· Source material for the designs to ensure proper specifications and pricing considerations.

· Create design documents, specifications and working drawings

· Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards

· Attend pre-construction and/or site meetings to address client concerns.

· Create design documents, specifications and working drawings

· Participate in hand-off meetings with sales and production departments.

· Liaise with external consultants and drafting contractors, if required, for assigned projects.

· Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; reviewing bids from contractors.

· Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.

· Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.

· Participate with other departments in identifying, analyzing and implementing corrective actions to non-conformances or production/quality problems

· Maintain up-to-date shop drawings.

· Provide As-built drawings as required.

· Manage tasks and timelines to customer and management expectations.

· Make decisions appropriate to the resolution of the specific tasks and activities assigned

· Take action to close engineering change notices.

· Work with suppliers to ensure design solutions consider manufacturability

· Maintain own set of customer files complete with drawings, work orders and correspondence.

· Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


- 5 years of related experience in project design engineering with a focus on new product development.

· Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in designing Portable structures, Steel construction

- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project)
- Fluent in AutoCAD
- Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and analyze difficult issues
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to perform both independently and with good judgment in a team environment
